2008 DODGE CHALLENGER (CPTV trailer)

I'm waiting for the new Edsel to come out next...SWEET!!!

Farewell?

What you see here is my first car, my first car that I as a young child remember, the first car that I drove as a teenager. I was 4 years old when my uncle brought this car down to my Mom and Dad. Being as he was an employee of the Ford Motor Company he was able to follow the car through the assembly line and watch it being completed. My parents bought it(their first new car) and it was delivered to them. Many a Sunday afternoon was spent driving to the local McDonald's for a hamburger and fries, if it got hot the rear window would lower for flow thru ventilation, no need for air on this car!

Now the spectre of doom lurks for the Mercury nameplate. It appears that Mercury will be the next automobile to be discontinued, it is speculation but the sales of the Mercury nameplate is lower than Oldsmobile and Plymouth were when they were discontinued.
I'll always remember the "Old Merc"...........

kinda neat

the workings of an engine, guy got a heat proof camera set it up in a 4cyl engine,
this is better than the idea I had of putting my cat in the engine and firing it up, then asking Fluffy what he saw.

Kids, before the cell phone this device was on the highways and byways, you stopped to use it , that way you NEVER took your eyes off the road and could always concentrate on driving.

Grand Theft Auto...kid style

I was recently at a store that had on display old pedal cars, nice to reminise but impossiblre for me to fit in now. I can recall a time many years ago when I was a mere small lad I too had a pedal car, and was king of my block! small block, small king. Once while on my drive around the block I noticed a "abandoned" pedal car, older looking, actually rusting in places..."well"I say to myself,"this car must have broke down and left to be towed off to the junk yard!" Not wishing to leave the neighborhood in blight with abandoned cars I quickly grabbed the steering wheel of the older car and proceeded, with my car..in tow to my house, all the things that went through my mind, I could re-paint this old car, put flames on it fix it up pedal down the road(sidewalk) WOW! I'd be the KING of the block now!! As I got closer to the house I noticed my Dad on the walk standing, waiting, for me? "where did you ge that car from son"? Dad asked. "It was just on the walk, I thought someone just left it for junk". Dad shook his head, "No son, it belongs to Billy down the street, you take it right back and apologize!" embarrassed, I turned around and took the car back, with Billy and his parents standing, waiting for me. "I'm sorry Billy, I didn't know, I really just wanted to fix it up". Billy said it was OK , and I offered to loan him my car "just because"....Who wouda known even at 5 I was trying to restore old cars...who wouda thunk!!

Guitars and Cadillacs

Actually just Cadillacs, Went to a car show today and saw an unrestored 55 Cadillac Coupe De Ville, baby blue with a white top. As I looked at the car it brought back memories of my Grandparents and the Cadillacs they drove, the first I can remember was a 55 Cadillac, same color as the one I saw today, only it was a Sedan De Ville. I can remember riding in that tank and thinking "boy, this is a car!!" several of the unique items it had was the place you filled up the gas tank, it was in the driver's side rear taillight, you pushed a button on the taillight and the light filliped up and there you had it! Also it had a device on the dash that would dim the lights automatically "Autronic Eye " it was called and I thought it was something else!!

The next Cadillac I remember was the 1960 Caddy . now this was the year after the 59 and the big fin era was on a downswing, but the car was huge and had a grill to match! I would put the rear center armrest down and sit on it, I could see over the front seat and wow! look at everything going on( I could have also sailed right into the windshield if Grampa had slammed on the brakes, but that was always left up to my Mother, somehow)

The next to last Caddy was a 1968 that was nice and long and also had a rear armrest that I could sit on, of course by this time I was ten and sitting on the armrest was difficult for my ten year old seat.

The last Cadillac Grampa owned was a 1972 White Sedan De Ville, I remember this one the best as, on day coming back from Harrisburg, Grampa pulled off the road and said"you want to drive?" My 16yr old heart jumped ! My Grampa felt I was ready to drive HIS CAR!!

I drove that car and will never forget it.

Go out this week and make some memories with your Kids or Grand kids, you'll be glad you did.

My life with wheels

It must have been the 51 Ford that did it, yup, that bump on the head at an early age started my journey on the road to car mania. My Mother had me in the front seat of my Grandfather's 51 ford, in a car seat (yes they had them way back then), all of a sudden ,my Mother recalls, she had to slam on the brakes. "plop" the front seat comes forward and I hit the dash. Even though I am convinced that my /mother was trying to dispose of me, the accident was my first contact with cars, but not my last. My details with cars continued as I began to walk and talk I could tell one car from the other and would proudly tell Dad and Mom what type of car it was! Sadly this must not have impressed my parents because I did not end up on "WHAT'S MY LINE" or The Art Linkletter Show". I knew a Ford from a Dodge from a Chevy and could even tell a Desoto from a Dodge, which was a pretty good trick, all done at the age of 3. Now the trick would be much harder as cars are all about the same and there is no imagination left to styling, it's all substance, no style. My "first" car was a 46 Ford, it was bigger than me (I was 5) and was a monster...my Dad would lift the hood to let me play while he was busy with other things that needed attention. This action would cause my Mom all sorts of stress as she could imagine the hood crashing down and trapping her baby boy in the jaws of this huge "tank". Nevertheless this car was my first car"love" and will remain so the rest of my life, I have a picture of me standing in front of it, hood open looking like it is ready to devour its next little kid, I'll find it "one of these days" and post it here...now go out and do something !
